Market Day builds young entrepreneurs

Orban Skool held a Market Day that saw their Grade 2s be store owners for a few hours.

It was a successful Market Day recently for the Grade 2s of Orban Skool.

According to Anne Steenkamp, a teacher at the school, the day exhibited dedication, hard work, and perseverance. The little entrepreneurs sold everything from juicy golden apples, to handcrafted wooden figures, “These learners truly went all out,” she said.

She added how a few of the learners did serve great food to fill fellow learners’ tummies. “Along with the exuberant atmosphere and inspired decorations, the enthusiasm and good salesmanship of the Grade 2s greatly contributed to the success of this event.”

Steenkamp concluded that the day was not only a fun-filled day that promoted entrepreneurship, but it also provided the Grade 2s with a real-life experience of the business world. “It challenged and encouraged them to take responsibility, think critically and make important decisions. It also promoted collaboration, planning and designing skills, as well as social skills, equipping our kids with valuable tools in becoming competent and contributing citizens of our country.”
