Dabulamanzi Canoe Club paddlers take the win

The Emmarentia-based paddlers won the race at the recently held 9 Miler Canoe Race.

Canoeists taking part in the event, hosted at Centurion Canoe Club, paddled along Rietvlei Dam on July 23. The calm waters were said to have called for a sense of enjoyment among the racers, with little wind and lots of sunshine despite the July chill.

The winning canoe was mixed double kayak, Clinton Cook partnered with Christie Mackenzie finishing in a time of 01:25:37. Both are from the Emmarentia-based canoe club. Finishing in second were Alex Roberts and Michael-Johnn Robb, who are also from the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, they finished in a time of 01:25:40. The pair was also first in the sub-veteran age group and second overall.

Wally Fisher and Gustav Radloff from Centurion Canoe Club finished fourth in a time of 01:25:43, and first in the Master Age category (50 years+), while young paddlers, Kwandokuhle Mzolo from the Soweto Canoe club and Sanele Mbanjwa from Durban, pulled in front of them to finish third at 01:25:42, and first in the U23s.
