Two suspects arrested for armed robbery with an unlicensed firearm in Westbury

The suspects and firearm will be investigated for links to other crimes in the area.

On July, 19 a member of the public stopped police from the Sophiatown robbery reaction unit informing them he had his cellphone stolen at gunpoint by two men in Westbury.

Sophiatown Police Station spokesperson Captain TJ de Bruyn said, “Police immediately went looking for the suspects in the direction they had run and gave chase on foot when the suspects were located. Both men, aged 23, were apprehended and the stolen phone recovered.”

An unlicensed firearm and live ammunition were seized and a case of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm have been opened.

The suspects will appear in court soon and investigations are being made to determine if the firearm or suspects have links to other cases in the area.
