Youth called to join Fairland CPF

You might think you too young to contribute to the Fairland CPF, but you are exactly what the forum is in search of.

Good, young, upstanding people is what the Fairland CPF is in search of to join their forum.

Speaking to Northcliff Melville Times, the forum’s public relations officer Mike Styer explained what type of person they were hoping to recruit.

He said candidates should preferably be in their 20s, and should be compassionate and show humility. According to Styer, the whole point of the forum was to be of service to others as the question in the forefront was always ‘what can I do for my community and those around me?’

“These are the sorts of traits that help build empathy and a lot of the time, this space shows you the underbelly of your community and not just what you may see comfortably from your parents’ house.” He said one would get to see the community from a different perspective, seeing displaced people and those struggling to make a living which would inevitably open one’s eyes.

Styer said it had been no easy feat trying to persuade youngsters to join the CPF. He noted that younger people might feel less obliged to join as they were not yet property owners nor did they have families, making it harder for them to get a sense of community. He believed that by joining the forum, these youngsters would acquire this sense of community.

“The more younger people we have in the CPF, the more younger people we can motivate within the community…..”.
