Fairland’s fine art winners

The Lillian Gray Fine Art School students won top places in the national competition.

The South African Championships of Performing Arts recently took place and the students of Lillian Gray Art School ensured they put their best artistic foot forward.

Of the many visual art students that entered the competition, 25 won gold, 14 won silver and 22 received bronze. At the competition, which takes place once a year, students are judged in two rounds, following the criteria of artistic technique, handling of medium, design and creative element as well as overall impression.

The school’s Jemma Stander said the Fairland-based, Lillian Gray Art School is an internationally recognised fine art school that was established in 2016. “We offer weekly art classes for all age groups, ranging from youngsters of six to adults of 99 years old.”

Stander also shared how they encourage children to develop their artistic skills while helping them develop their creativity, imagination, social skills and confidence.

“We train them in clay, drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media. We also help our teens to have a practical understanding of art terminology and help them create their portfolio for Grade 12 and for university so that they can pursue an artistic career.”
