Assault GBH reported at Fairland Police

FAIRLAND – Members of the public are also advised not to confront those suspected to be involved in suspicious or illegal activity taking place around them for their own safety.

Fairland Police Station opened two separate cases of stabbings in their policing precinct over the past week.

According to the station’s spokesperson Sergeant Michael Kgatla, it was rare that such cases took place in the area. In the first incident, a woman was stabbed by her boyfriend and he was taken into custody while the victim needed urgent medical attention due to her injuries.

A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) was opened and would be investigated.

The second incident took place in Market Street Park involving displaced people who live there. Kgatla said, “One of the vagrants living there was accused of stabbing another and was subsequently arrested. The suspect has previous cases of murder and assault GBH and is known to be problematic.”

Kgatla said the activities taking place in the park tended to make it a dangerous place. He added that the police and security companies did patrol the park often and confiscated weapons, drugs and alcohol but incidents such as this continued to take place.

“People in the park think we target them unfairly but due to incidents that have taken place in the park and people drinking and doing drugs there, we know it can become a dangerous place. We are only doing such to keep people there and around the park safe.”

Kgatla vowed that they would continue to patrol the park and many others to ensure that all there were safe at all times. Any suspicious or illegal activities taking place in parks and public places should be reported to the police or the local security company. Members of the public are also advised not to confront those involved in suspicious or illegal activities taking place around them for their own safety.
