A national win for King David Victory Park

VICTORY PARK – Two of the school's learners took part in a national competition where they claimed a bronze medal.

King David Victory Park learners, Samuel Blou and Daniella Reubenson, received bronze medals after they participated in the South African Mathematics Olympiad.

Although the competition is a national one, it also included learners from Nigeria and Swaziland. It is divided into the junior division, for learners in grades 8 and 9, and a senior division for learners in grades 10 and 11.

According to the school’s marketing manager, Nirvana Rogers, each year, more than 100 000 learners take part in this competition which consist of three rounds. Blou and Reubenson qualified to participate in its final round. This achievement placed them in the top 30 for Gauteng and the top 100 juniors nationally.

Additionally, they also competed in the Wits Maths Competition (WMC), a Gauteng-based competition, which due to Covid-19 has been extended to national entries with the first round being written remotely.

The final round is written in person. The pair qualified to participate in the final round of the WMC in the junior secondary division and have been announced as achieving top 10 positions in Gauteng.
