Bowlers raise R15 000 for charity assisting stroke victims

ROOSEVELT PARK – Bowlers have a blast at Roosevelt Park Bowling Club for a good cause.

It was a beautiful day out in the sun for bowlers raising funds and awareness for charity, at Roosevelt Park Bowling Club.

A whopping 112 bowlers from all over Johannesburg and Pretoria attended, and they helped raise funds for non-profit organisation Headway, which assists stroke victims.

President of the club, David Putter said R15 000 was collected and handed over to the charity, which was very grateful for the donation.

The club’s Louise Evans, herself a silver medal winner at the Physically Disabled Nationals, spoke on the day about surviving a stroke.

“As I’m sure most of you know, I’m a stroke survivor myself and I consider myself to be one of the very lucky ones,” she said in her speech.

“Still so much is unknown about strokes, the symptoms, why they happen and the disabilities it leaves with some of us, but with fundraisers like this, people are becoming more aware of what to look for and what to do to help, and also what to maybe expect after the stroke.”

Putter concluded that anyone interested in playing bowls could contact the club.
