Orban ignites a sports flame among their young with mini Olympics
WESTDENE – The school hosted its own mini Olympics and it was an epic event.
With Olympic spirit and South African sports pride at an all-time high, Orban School learners had a great morning of their very own as they took part in their school’s own Olympic events.
All pre-primary learners were divided into country teams for participation: Italy, Canada, Turkey, Japan and various other countries of the world, while the Grade 1 to 3 classes cheered them on with great enthusiasm. All this done while still keeping within Covid-19 restrictions.
The Orban Mini Olympics even had an Olympic flame proudly burning as these future athletes showed their mettle in the high jump, hurdles, shot put, hockey, badminton, volleyball and long jump.
The young Olympians were also interviewed by The Purple Overview newspaper, the school’s very own newspaper’s sports journalists as they participated in this non-competitive morning of activities.
After the sporting events, limited edition paper medals were awarded to each athlete in the medal ceremony. The importance of sport, camaraderie, and some good fun time in the sun, was desperately needed by all.
Orban looks forward to hosting an even bigger Junior Olympics come 2024.
