Music composed to heal

NEWLANDS – Local Afro-pop singer/songwriter plans to take his music to the world and have it be a positive influence to all who listen to it.

Upcoming Afro-pop musician, Eric Mothusi Mokaleng, who goes by the stage name Fresh Eric, hopes he will be a force to be reckoned with in the South African music industry.

The talented 28-year-old singer/songwriter is paving his own path to stardom and hoping to take over the Afro-pop scene and run with it in the country. Confident and bubbly, Mokaleng grew up in a multi-cultural home and it was through this upbringing that afforded him the ability to speak an array of languages, a trait this rising star has poured into his music in hopes it would gain him fans across multiple cultures on our continent.

Before the Newlands-based artist found his feet in Afro-pop, he tested the tunes of a completely different genre. “Back in the day when my interest started growing for music, I did RnB and hip-hop. However, as time went on, I started falling in love with my current genre, Afro-pop.” Asked why he chose this genre he simply said it was easy for him to relate to. “It’s perfect since the majority of my music is written in my languages.”
One of his biggest wishes is that his music will provide a sense of healing to his fans.

Mokaleng, who looks up to local artists such as Sjava and Black Diamond, released his own song Aura back in 2019.
