Frontline medical workers thanked for their efforts

JOBURG – Recovered Covid-19 patient urges public to stay cautious of the virus.

‘Medicine cures diseases but only doctors can cure patients,’ said Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Carl Jung.

These words rang true for Beagle Watch Armed Reaction officer Molemo Ditsebe who was extremely grateful for the frontline medical workers who helped cure him of Covid-19. Ditsebe tested positive for the virus in May last year when he had a pre-admission Covid-19 test for an operation he needed at the time. He commended the bravery shown by these doctors and nurses. Ditsebe said, “We wouldn’t be in a better situation if it was not for them.

They are facing a virus that every other person is terrified of, head-on. They are putting their lives in danger every day to fight for the lives of those who need their service.” One frontline worker, in particular, will forever stay in his heart and his family’s. This was Netcare Olivedale Hospital specialist Dr Makhosonke Maseko. Ditsebe said if it wasn’t for Maseko’s medical expertise, he wouldn’t have bounced back from the virus as he did.

“I would like to extend a great deal of gratitude and honour to Dr Makhosonke Maseko and all frontline medical workers. This pandemic will pass but their will and determination to fight for our lives will never be forgotten.” Luckily for Ditsebe, his condition wasn’t as severe as he expected it to be and he credits this to the medical workers who helped him during his quarantining and recovery time. “It was not as severe because my doctor gave me some tips and guidelines on how to best manage the situation. I just had a mild cough towards the end of the quarantine period.”

Ditsebe also reserved a special thanks for his wife and children who also played a big role in helping him recover. “A big thank you to them, for showing the utmost care and sound calmness when we were faced with a new and unknown enemy.” He also thanked Beagle Watch for the support he received when he returned to duty. As the world continues the fight against Covid-19, Ditsebe has pleaded with the public to remain cautious of the virus. “Covid-19 is real and should be taken seriously. Always implement the preventive guidelines set by the government, especially social distancing, wearing a mask and washing/sanitising hands frequently.”
