A 99 per cent pass rate at Roosevelt High School

ROOSEVELT PARK – The school was bowled over at the results the class managed to attain.

The next chapter for Roosevelt High School’s matric Class of 2020 is all the brighter after their results came out.

Although last year had its constraints and challenges, the class managed to obtain a 99 per cent pass rate – this meant 69 per cent of the class got bachelor degree passes and 26 per cent received a diploma pass. There were also four matriculants whose hard work paid off to achieve seven and six distinctions each.

For the school, these results were the ultimate success story as many of the learners did not have Internet access. “We could not do all the google classes or any of the technological things as many of our kids come from disadvantaged backgrounds,” said principal Willie de Wet.

The school then had to make other plans, like emailing parents, parents also had to come to collect work and texts books, teachers taught for extra hours and on weekends too. “The staff put in all this effort and today we reap the benefits of that hard work.”

De Wet was ultimately bowled over by the level of success exemplified by the Class of 2020.

He reiterated that even though most of their learners are from underprivileged backgrounds they still made it. “This was a collective effort – not only from our teachers but our kids too, they did what they needed to do.”

The school said they went the extra mile for the learners accompanied with a firm support structure. “We also have good learners, who choose to take our guidance and the results prove it,” concluded De Wet.
