Virtual picnics for Orban Skool

WESTDENE – The school's learners and parents shared a picnic with each other in the safety of each of their homes.

Orban Skool’s annual meet-and-greet picnic, a highlight on the school calendar for learners and parents, was held virtually this year to adhere to Covid-19 regulations.

This year’s very creative theme was ‘let the purple sparkle shine’; it invited parents and learners to enjoy a picnic in their own homes or gardens. During their picnic, each family lit a sparkler which was given to them, and was asked to share photos and videos on the class group of everyone’s experience on the day.

Liz van Tonder, the school’s principal, said teachers, parents and learners look forward to this annual event with great excitement. “I think every person can benefit from the positive attitude Orban’s become known for and so we thought it best to introduce a theme to 2021 which is ‘share the purple love’.”

She explained purple badges with big purple hearts were handed out to learners to wear throughout the year. “This is to remind all of us that we have to share our love and be kind to those around us. Covid-19 has had a massive impact on all of us, and Orban will continue to build a loving school community and initiate inspirational ideas to make 2021 memorable, said Van Tonder.

The school’s families are said to have participated with great enthusiasm and sparklers lit up the sky. “In the end, the feeling of community and support was achieved, even if it was done virtually.”
Van Tonder concluded that Orban will continue to think outside the box to uphold annual traditions within Covid-19 regulations, all while making 2021 an exciting and memorable year.
