A calmer than usual end to the festive season

SOPHIATOWN – Level 3 restrictions attributed to calm in Sophiatown Police Station communities.

A calmer end to the festive season was experienced in the Sophiatown Police Station precinct.

The station’s spokesperson, Captain TJ de Bruyn said during this time they experienced low volumes of crime. When asked how the station viewed the public’s behaviour during New Year’s Eve celebrations, he said it was calmer than usual, attributing this to the restrictions that were put in place by President Cyril Ramaphosa. “The curfew that is still in place also contributed as did the ban on alcohol sales,” he added.

De Bruyn said although they have no specific concerns in the new year, they do urge the community to continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour and crimes.

He concluded by saying 2020 was a difficult year that was now behind us and he urged the community to adhere to the regulations set by the President. “Stay alert and stay safe, together we can fight and together we can overcome this pandemic.”
