City of Joburg wishes the residents a pleasant festive season

The MMCs and Speaker of the City of Johannesburg along with all their staff thanked the residents of Johannesburg for making 2020 an unforgettable year.

Although difficult, the City worked with various organisations, companies and individuals to navigate the challenges caused by Covid-19. The City spent months and millions informing, educating, testing, quarantining, feeding, engaging, and helping the residents of Johannesburg.

The City’s Speaker of Council Nonceba Molwele said, “2020 has been a long difficult year for many of us, some of us were lucky or blessed to make it through, this is the time for us to heal, to reflect and support those who are going through difficult times. Those who are blessed to go on holiday with their families, please enjoy this time. Remember this is a time to recharge and rest where we can.”

To keep the City’s services running throughout the festive season and into the new year, Finance MMC Jolidee Matongo pleaded with residents to continue paying their municipal rates and services accounts. He thanked those who regularly did so and wished every member of the public a magical and favourable holiday season after months of challenges and hurdles.

Matongo said, “The finance department wishes the residents of Johannesburg a blessed festive season. We wish and hope you all strive through the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown we have seen. We commit ourselves to holding hands with our residents to rebuild the city post-Covid-19.”

Additionally, residents have been reminded that the City had various easy, quick and safe electronic facilities available that could be used to make their payments throughout the season.

MMC of Health and Social Development, Sibongile Eunice said, “I wish all the citizens of this great world-class African city happy holidays. They must be safe and should act responsibly at all times. Most importantly, people should not drink and drive as this causes unnecessary accidents that put a strain on our health services.” She reminded the public as they go out to explore the city and other parts of the country, to follow all safety guidelines and protocols for Covid-19.

The MMCs all wished the residents of the city a Merry Christmas, happy New Year and joyous festive season. They were all looking forward to building on the success of 2020 and learn from its lessons and have pledged to return in 2021 better, faster, simpler and stronger but could only do so if the residents of Johannesburg partnered with them.

Economic Development MMC Lawrence Khoza concluded, “Some of our fellow citizens have lost loved ones and many have faced major economic challenges. I wish all of our citizens a peaceful and prosperous festive season. Let us extend love and solidarity to all, and may we enter 2021 with energy and optimism.”
