Local resident details her journey to graduation

LINDEN– Local resident discusses the journey

Motselisi Mosebo (22) is a member of the film crew of Beyond, a third-year graduation film production which serves as the final mark for her undergraduate degree.
The Linden resident who schools at AFDA delved into her love of film.

“At some point in high school, I developed an intense interest in filmmaking, unprovoked. The desire to learn it came from nowhere, or maybe it didn’t,” mused Mosebo.
Mosebo is the second born of five and enjoys reading, curating independently produced music for fun, poetry, yoga, tea, photography, PC games, and of course watching films.

She specialised in producing at AFDA and felt that there was a missing link between the South African film industry and the audience. She has not been able to identify what that was yet.

Her graduation film Beyond features various shots which included locations in Randburg and Northcliff such as Trinity Methodist Church and 5th Street in Linden. Mosebo said her crew had some unique challenges due to the Sci-Fi film being heavy on video effects, however, her crew agreed that they would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

“My crew made it easy for me to be a good producer… They are a blessing and we are very big on the idea of synergy.”

Mosebo expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had helped her to be where she was today.

“I want to thank my dad for eventually giving in to let me study film. I don’t regret a single bit of it. I want to thank my mom for not hesitating to help through my assignments or to get resources for shoots on numerous occasions.

“Most of all I want to thank all the mentors and lecturers I’ve had who’ve fought for me and have encouraged me through my journey, I owe what I know to you.

“I love collaborating and being a part of projects, or recommending my talented peers to people looking for specific skills.”
