Jail time on the cards for suspected car breakers

NORTHGATE – The occupants were then questioned and it was discovered that they were in possession of several car-breaking implements including car keys, LM keys, screw drivers, hammers and more.

Police arrested three for being in possession of several and various car-break-in implements.

Fairland Police Station has been looking forward to busting suspects involved in car break-ins following a rise in such incidents over the last few weeks. On 14 October they were successful as they arrested three suspects on Beyers Naudé Drive after finding them in possession of car-breaking implements.

According to the station spokesperson Sergeant Michael Kgatla, the arrests came as a good sign following increased reports of car break-ins in Northcliff. He explained, “We found the car in the same area we have the problem of theft from and out of and theft of motor vehicles. We suspect that these three suspects are the people involved in this and we will continue investigating the matter to see if there are links.”

Kgatla stated that they were alerted of the suspicious-looking vehicle by a security guard at the centre. “Police were patrolling the area when a security guard informed them of the vehicle. As police approached the vehicle, the suspects speed off but we were able to apprehend them in not too far from the centre.”

The occupants were then questioned and it was discovered that they were in possession of several car-breaking implements including car keys, LM keys, screw drivers, hammers and more. Fortunately, no shots were fired nor were any injuries reported in the incident.

Police also suspect that the car they were using was stolen. Initial investigations into the case show that the suspects had been using false registration plate and license disk. “The license disk in the car belonged to a completely different make and model of car and which could result in the discovery of another stolen car.”
