To parkrun or not to parkrun

JOBURG – Participants do not have to answer all the questions and they can expect questions about their travel, going to public places like schools and shops, how often they take part in parkrun and how comfortable they would be to return to parkrun within a week or month.

Parkrun South Africa has sent a survey out to those registered for the weekly free runs, with questions about how safe they would feel returning to organised runs as soon as they are allowed to.

Parkruns are 5km run/walks in various parks every Saturday morning at 8am. People register online and have their times emailed to them, all free of charge.

Before the lockdown, some of the biggest runs in Joburg featured more than 1 000 runners and walkers weekly. There is a strong focus on family at the parkruns and many bring their dogs too.

“We continue to work behind the scenes so that when our events reopen, they do so in a safe and appropriate way, and with the best interests of not just their walkers, joggers, runners, and volunteers, but the wider communities that support them,” a statement by Parkrun SA read before providing a link to the survey, which can be completed here https://app.impactreporting.co.uk/pwa/q5dNyY

“As part of this work we would like to know a little more about how you feel right now and how you feel about parkrun returning. Our aim is always to make evidence-based decisions, factoring in official guidance on Covid-19 alongside how our communities feel in terms of health and happiness.”

Participants do not have to answer all the questions and they can expect questions about their travel, going to public places like schools and shops, how often they take part in parkrun and how comfortable they would be to return to parkrun within a week or month.

There are even some questions about how positive one is feeling about life at the moment.
