City of Joburg raises awareness on Covid-19

JOBURG – Various City departments formed part of the awareness campaign to educate the public about Disaster Management Act Lockdown regulations and basic guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

City of Johannesburg Speaker of Council, councillor Nonceba Molwele alongside the Johannesburg Metro Politan Department (JMPD) and the City of Joburg Emergency Management Services have launched the Civic Education Vehicle and Loud Hailing Awareness Campaign on 5 August in Braamfontein.

According to Molwele, the loud-hailing vehicle will expand civic education across the city with the focus on sharing coronavirus safety messages, especially in densely populated areas.
Molwele identified the need for such a vehicle based on her own assessment and interaction with various stakeholders around the issue of community outreach, to influence behavioural change on Covid-19 whilst adhering to the Covid-19 regulations such as social distancing in particular.

“The programme will be facilitated in collaboration with all the ward councillors. The Health and Social Development Department and the Public Safety departments have been consulted and will play a critical role in the implementation of the project,” said Molwele.
The van is scheduled to conduct weekly Covid-19 and civic education programmes so that communities recognise it when it reaches their areas and to further empower and educate residents of Johannesburg.
