Pipers win bronze medal on an international stage

VICTORY PARK – De La Salle Holy Cross College pipe band members participated in an international online competition.

De La Salle Holy Cross College’s pipe band members excel at a recent solo competition.

The two young members, Erin Jones (12) and Jamie Saul (15), both placed third in their respective events at the Jeppe Online International Piping and Drumming solo competition which was held not too long ago. Competitors came from Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa

‘I’ve only recently started playing and I’m enjoying learning to play and to read music. The chanter is the instrument we learn tunes on before we move on to pipes,’ said Jamie.

The results were as follows:

Event 1: Chanter

  • 1st Hamish Stephens – Coupar Angus Pipe Band – Scotland
  • 2nd Matthew Bloy – Cornwall Hill College Pipe Band –South Africa
  • 3rd Jamie Saul – De La Salle Holy Cross College Pipe Band – South Africa

Event 7: Novice Tenor March

  • 1st Sbusisiwe Zikalala – Jeppe Pipe Band – South Africa
  • 2nd Alanna Brook – St Andrew’s College Pipe Band – New Zealand
  • 3rd Erin Jones – De La Salle Holy Cross College Pipe Band – South Africa.
