Watch: President tours Nasrec Expo Centre quarantine site

The President and the Premier took time to visit and tour the facility that will house Covid-19 patients.

President Cyril Ramaphosa and Gauteng Premier David Makhura today (24 April) conducted a walkabout tour of a hall which has been demarcated as a quarantine or isolation facility for Covid-19 patients.

Members of the media have been invited along to view the facility.

The president was joined by Gauteng Premier, David Makhura and various officials from the Gauteng Health Department. On the walkabout, President Ramaphosa was also informed that the centre could accommodate 500 people while adhering to all rules of social distancing. He was also shown the facility’s sanitation stations such as showers, bathrooms and where patients will wash their hands while under quarantine there.

The facility will be opened to those who may struggle to isolate themselves at their own residence.

According to the programme of events, the President would then visit the Johannesburg Food Bank, and the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.
