Security company robbed

LINDEN – The Linden Police are warning private security companies to be vigilant after a robbery on 30 December 2019.

The Linden police are urging private security companies to be vigilant at the start of the new year after a robbery at a security company on 30 December 2019.

According to Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba, just before midnight, an on-duty security officer was working at reception when he noticed two men knocking at the door.

They were both wearing the security company’s uniform, so the officer opened the doors to let them in. “The complainant said he thought it was one of his supervisors.”

The men threatened the officer with a firearm and ordered him not to make a noise or else they will shoot him.

“The suspects tied up the complainant and others who were also in the building, and three other suspects entered the building.”

They stole remotes, ID tags, TVs, monitors, cell phones and some unidentified items from the offices.

Matumba added, “Suspects made away with the stolen goods in a white Toyota Quantum with the registration number hidden with a bandage. The complainant was left tied with his colleagues inside one of the offices,

“Our message to security companies is to not to trust anyone or everyone who comes knocking at your door, even if they are wearing the same uniform as you. Rather ask for proper identification if they are not convincing enough, and confirm with your supervisor.”
