BREAKING NEWS: Two dead, six taken to hospital in Melville New Years night shooting

MELVILLE - Starting the year off in the worst way possible after two are shot dead during celebrations.

Police confirm two females shot dead in early hours of their New Year celebrations.

Brixton Police Station have launched a manhunt to find those responsible for shooting at people at a Melville restaurant. According to the station’s spokesperson, Jeanette Backhoff shared details of the incident. She stated, “on the arrival of the officers they found paramedics on the scene attending to eight victims that were shot by unknown suspects. The shooting took place just before 1am on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 7th street. Of the eight total victims of the shooting, two females were certified dead by the paramedics while the other six received medical treatment.

Police so far can only confirm the vehicle that was used during the shooting. Backhoff stated, “The suspects were seen to be driving a black BMW X5 with no registration.” Backhoff also confirmed that they found four empty cartridges and four projectiles at the scene.

The relatives of the deceased were contacted shortly after the incident. The surviving victims were transported to nearby hospitals Milpark and Helen Joseph for further treatment.

Police have now launched a full investigation into the matter. Anyone with details that can lead the police to the suspects is urged to contact the police immediately. Police reminded the public that anonymous tip-offs can also be made.
