For those looking to vote but not too sure about who to vote for, below are short bios of our finalists and links to some of the work they have been part of this year. We hope this helps you make a decision for who you believe should walk away with one of the coveted awards.

Community Project of the Year finalists

Let’s Work NPO in Ward 88
Primary schools, retirement villages, community events, there isn’t a place in Ward 88 that hasn’t been touched by the amazing work of Let’s Work. Through the support of the community and the leadership of Felicity Gratz-Lawlor, this NPO is now a key feature of Johannesburg’s Ward 88 and surrounding suburbs.

Westdene-Sophiatown Residents Associations community renewal project
The unity of Westdene and Sophiatown residents is best seen when the resident’s associations are planning and hosting community initiatives. Residents come out in their numbers to keep these communities clean and are firm believers in the ‘Broken Window Theory’.

Fairland CPF’s community patrollers and Victim Support Unit
From Preventing crime, to dealing with the trauma and after-effects of crime. Fairland CPF’s patrollers and victim support teams are always on standby to assist the police and security companies in keeping the area safe for all.

Friends of Alberts Farm Conservancy
Alberts Farm is a flagship park in Johannesburg but if it wasn’t for the work done by this group, who knows what state the park could be in. This organisation has been hard at work this year to raise funds, awareness and support for the needs of the park.

Woof Woof, Who let the Dogs out fundraiser
This project was organised by Berario’s Vicky Fitzgibbon to raise funds for a Sowetan-based animal shelter and their hopes to build an animal hospital. Having raised over R12 000, it’s safe to say that this animal shelter is grateful for this project.
