Police spend Mandela Day with learners of Casa Do Sol

LINDEN – Police offer prizes to those who did the Madiba dance best.

The great late Nelson Mandela once said ‘History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children.’

It seems as if the officers at Linden Police Station agree with this belief as they committed themselves to spend their Mandela Day, 18 July with Casa Do Sol. A spokesperson for the station, Constable Takalani Matumba, said that on the day, they gave talks, tips, and gifts to the learners of the school for children with special educational needs.

She said, “We wanted to help encourage them to love themselves and not to allow anyone to bully them. We also shared with them the importance of Mandela Day and showed them that we honour the day.”

Apart from the lessons given to the learners, there was also a dance competition held to see who could do the legendary Madiba dance, to which awards were given out to those who did it best.

The learners got to spend some quality time with those in blue as they took them on tours of the school and classes. Food parcels were also shared with the school and the learners.
