Linden police issued the following safety tips:

  • Be familiar with the environment you are in at all times and always keep alert to anything that is out of the ordinary
  • Most cars today have an automatic locking system but it is always advisable to double check if the vehicle doors are locked by trying to open them manually
  • If you are driving in traffic, try to stop a few metres away from the car in front of you to have space for a quick getaway should anything happen
  • If you suspect that you are being followed, try accelerating while monitoring the car behind you if they are really following you and look for the safest place to stop, like a police station
  • Keep your valuables (bags, laptops, cellphones and others) out of sight especially far from the vehicle’s windows
  • n Do not respond to people who are indicating to you that there is something wrong with your car, rather find a safe spot to stop and check your vehicle
  • When approaching your home, look out for any suspicious vehicle or a person or even a group of people who are next to your house
  • If you see something suspicious close to your gate or house rather contact or drive to the nearest police station.
