Young cheerleaders have made their school and community proud by being selected to compete in the USA.

De La Salle Holy Cross College learners, Dayna Wools, and Juno D’Alessandro have been selected to compete in the 11th Cheerleading World Championship for National Teams and the 16th World Club Cheerleading and Dance Team Championships at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida USA held on 24 to 26 April this year.

“It’s been a long-term dream of mine to compete internationally so naturally, I am very excited to have the opportunity to expand my skills and compete on an international platform,” said Juno D’Alessandro.

Cheerleading originated in the United States, it can be performed to motivate sports teams and to entertain the audience. Routines for the sport normally span from one to three minutes and contain components of tumbling, dance, jumps, cheers, and stunting.

D’Alessandro explained, “The trials and training for this competition have been strenuous and all-consuming but I think we are finally ready to showcase South African talent to the world. I’m very proud to represent my country in a sport that is often overlooked in South Africa and I know that we can do our country proud.”
