Easy ways to keep braai grill clean

We South Africans love nothing more than a good ol’ braai. However, none of us love the heavy scrubbing needed when cleaning the grill afterwards. Here are a trio of tips to help create a virtually grease-free grill.

  • Before you light up, spray the grill rack generously with non-stick cooking spray. Food won’t stick and the clean-up is miles easier.

  • If the grill is already coated with baked-on grease and food, wrap it in heavy-duty aluminium foil, shiny side in. Heat the braai to high heat and place rack over coals or flame for around 10 to 12 minutes. After it’s cooled, remove the foil and most of the burned-on grease and food will fall away. Yay!

  • To help keep the grill clean after all that effort, the next time you braai make a ball of aluminium foil and rub vigorously over the warm rack surface. Try not to burn your fingers.
