100 percent matric pass rate at De La Salle Holy Cross College

VICTORY PARK – No one in 32 years has ever failed their matric exams at this college.

Every learner of De La Salle Holy Cross College who wrote their final matric exams at the end of 2018 is celebrating as the school announced that they have achieved a perfect pass rate yet again.

The results for the Independent Examination Boards (IEB) were released in the early hours of 3 January 2019. Atholl Murray, headmaster of De La Salle Holy Cross College, shared his excitement for the college’s success. He said, “It has been another exceptional year for the Class of 2018 and their teachers. My hope is that our pupils learn to enjoy the journey that they are about to embark on and continue to find the right mountains to conquer with kindness, patience and resilience. Praesis Ut Prosis.”

This year’s top learners were Jenna Beckenstrater and Mufaro Nduku who obtained eight distinctions each. Beckenstrater has also been included in this year’s IEB Outstanding Achievement list. Their classmates Julio de Abreu, Calvin dos Santos, Kirsty Ellard, Jenna Little, Anna Mungle and Julia Tuson all had 7 distinctions each while Amanda Farinha, Fortune Tleane and Aimee van Greenen achieved 6 distinctions each.

Apart from the 100 per cent pass rate their learners also grabbed a total of 176 distinctions. This resulted in the college achieving an average of 2.4 subject distinctions per candidate. In addition, they also accomplished a grade average of 73 per cent.

The college is also celebrating the efforts of Jenna Beckenstrater, Kirsty Ellard, Julio de Abreu, Jacqueline Ribeiro and Julio de Abreu as they were part of an extraordinary list. They were part of the top 1 per cent of candidates in a range of subjects including mathematics, life sciences and history.
