Herdershof police flats get cleaned up

ALBERTVILLE – Enthusiastic children living at the Herdershof police flats help with the clean-up to brighten up where they live.

Members of the community and Herdershof police flats’ residents came together to clean up the flats on 24 November.

Edward Seaborne and Victor Mmuroa had previously asked for donations and manpower to help clean up the residence as reported in Northcliff Melville Times in the article titled Cleaning up the local police flats, Week ending 16 November.

Mmurao asked on Facebook for donations of plants to help brighten up the entrance to the flats. Seabourne, a community member, saw the Facebook post and vowed to help the residents clean up the police flats.

On the I Love Alberville Facebook page, Seabourne asked community members to donate much-needed supplies for the block of flats, including supplies that would help build a playground for the children living there.

On 24 November, community members came together to assist with the clean-up and it was a great success.

“Members of the community started with the garden project. The enthusiastic children helped with planting, digging and watering the new garden bed. We stopped for a little break and then we finished off the garden area and we used this time to teach the children about the effects of littering,” said Seabourne.

“When I arrived at 8.30am the residents and children of Herdershof had already started cleaning. The kids helped in picking up bags and bags of rubbish. They were super enthusiastic and really were the heart and souls of the clean-up. The boys and girls picked up almost 100 bags of rubbish from all around the flats. Victor [Mmuroa] was also a superstar on the day,” he concluded.
