Police are urging motorists to be aware of an increase in cases opened relating to stolen side mirrors.
Melville’s 4th and 7th avenues are increasingly becoming a hotspot for theft from and out of motor vehicles according to Brixton Police Station.
According to the station, they have seen a rise in the number of cases in the area.
Jeanette Backhoff, spokesperson for the station said these criminals are targeting high-end vehicles for their parts. “Side mirrors of high-performance vehicles and expensive vehicles are stolen.”
Backhoff stated that they have put a task team together to investigate these crimes.
“We are currently working in the area to curb these types of crimes. The team has already had a breakthrough and arrests will be made shortly.”
While the police attempt to reduce the number of these incidents, they have provided the following safety tips for motorists:
- Do not leave valuable items in the vehicle, especially where they can be seen from outside.
- Ensure that your vehicle is properly locked.
- Park your vehicle where there is a car guard around the parking area.
- Don’t park in dark areas, park your vehicle where there is proper light.
