City Parks refer rat issue to environmental health

EMMARENTIA – Environmental health is set to attend to rats at the Dam.

The rodent issue at Emmerentia Dam has been forwarded to the City’s environmental health department.

This according to Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, who said that the matter of rats at Emmarentia Dam has been forwarded to the relevant authority. Spokesperson on City Parks Jenny Moodley said, “The matter has been referred to the environmental health manager to carry out pest control.”

The Northcliff Melville Times recently reported residents’ concerns with what they believe to be a growing rat colony at the dam in the article titled Rodent colonies are a ‘dam’ big problem, Week ending 9 November. These residents hope to see something done about these rodents as a few of them have already experienced these rats moving onto their properties.

Moodley stated that there isn’t an infestation of the rodents. She has urged users of the park and dam to exercise the necessary caution when visiting the facilities in the meanwhile.
