Fairland police urge residents to be more vigilant

FAIRLAND – The Fairland Police Station is currently working with limited patrol cars while they are supporting the Sophiatown police.

Police are urging residents to be more vigilant as they are working with limited patrol cars due to the Westbury unrest.

The protest and violence taking place in Westbury and surrounding areas is having an impact on the Fairland police precinct.

The station’s spokesperson, Constable Moloko Kgatla said, “The station has been supporting Sophiatown Police Station in managing the issue which has resulted in them having reduced patrol vehicles in their area.”

They have already responded to two hijacking incidents and believe that criminals will attempt to commit crimes in the area as there is a heavy police presence in Westbury.

Due to this, the police are urging business and residents to be extra vigilant. Kgatla said, “During this time please check around your gate before you leave or enter your house and ensure that your vehicle is locked when parking in public places.”

He added that security companies have increased their visibility in the area, which they are thankful for.

He advises members of the public to continue reporting any suspicious behaviour they see immediately to the police.
