Serving up fun tennis lessons at Vuleka

SOPHIATOWN – Vuleka Schools held a tennis showcase to entice their learners into following and playing the sport.

Thirty-three learners from Vuleka St Joseph’s Archbishop Thabo Makgoba School for Boys were given the chance to taste the sport of tennis.

This is all part of a project developed by the school to encourage their boys to grow an interest in the sport.

Mrs Lushendrie Govender, head of the school said, “The initiative aims to enrich our learners’ lives on various levels.

Our vision is to train them to the point where they are able to compete in junior tournaments.

Ultimately, our intention is to expose the boys to sporting opportunities they would not otherwise have a chance to encounter and to motivate them to make the most of their potential”.

The school is very thankful for all those who came on board to make the day possible.

A special thank you was directed towards professional tennis player Cosmo Chirandu who guided the young tennis enthusiast on the day.

They would also like to thank the school’s sponsors for providing funding to run additional enrichment programmes like the School Tennis Initiative.
