Big news as nursery and primary school to team up to provide a Grade R class.
Northcliff Nursery School and Northcliff Primary School are proud and excited to announce that the two schools will join forces to provide a Grade R level in 2019.
Renate Alberts, the principal of Northcliff Nursery School said, “Northcliff Nursery School will be combining with Northcliff Primary School.We will become the primary school’s Grade R centre, so for the first time in its history Northcliff Primary School will have Grade R classes.”
The school is welcoming parents to apply for positions in its new Grade R classes as this brilliant collaboration will allow children to effortlessly move from nursery school to Grade R and finally into Grade 1.
The road to making this a reality has been a long one. According to Christo Olwagen, Northcliff Primary school’s governing body chairman, all entities involved have been hard at work for the last 18 months to make this a reality.
He shared his excitement about the news and said, “There are two things that are exciting about this; the first is that we can get good quality Grade Rs into the primary school.
We know the education department doesn’t have all the resources to meet all the needs so this ability to do our part won’t cost the department money; they can allocate these funds elsewhere,” said Olwagen.
He elaborated and said there has been a lot of communication between parents of both schools and there has been very little contestation on the matter.
Olwagen said, “These were probably the only parents’ meetings where I didn’t have anyone unhappy with the idea being discussed. Parents contributed positively and productively and a spirit of working together to benefit children was born.”
Parents will be able to enrol their children in Grade R affording them the experience of attending a primary school environment by reducing all those first-day tears.
The principal of Northcliff Primary School, Debbie Smith said this would be beneficial to everyone and not just the children.
Teachers and staff will benefit as they will be trained even further to meet the demands of basic education and can further their careers and expertise in the field.
Smith explained how the planned implementation will work.
She said, “It’s going to take us three years, next year (2019) we hope to have two classes and in the following year, a third and in the next, a fourth. We will slowly move in with the nursery school and work together.”
