Rawson Northcliff revive community vegetable garden outside police station

FAIRLAND – The team said that they will continue with their good deed as they plan to visit the garden on a regular basis.

A property agency decided to get their hands dirty and bring some life back to a local vegetable garden.

Rawson Properties Northcliff put down their pamphlets on Mandela Day, 18 July, to revive the vegetable garden outside the Fairland police station.

Petronella van der Merwe, who works at Rawson, said, “We spent our 67 plus minutes by reviving the old soil and cleaning up the area and planted vegetables such as cabbage, carrots and spinach.”

The Rawson Northcliff team spend their Mandela Day reviving a vegetable garden outside the Fairland police station.

The team arrived at the police station with all the necessary tools and got to work instantly, with the biggest smiles on their faces.

The idea was initiated under the leadership of the franchisee, Jan Oberholzer and put into action by Maryke Visser.

According to Van der Merwe, the idea was to do something that improved the community.

Rawson Northcliff staff plant all sorts of vegetables for those less fortunate to use.

Everybody helps to clean up the area after all the gardening is done.

“The community will benefit from being able to go to the planter boxes and help themselves to the vegetables planted in order to assist with feeding their families and/or others, as and when the need arises.”

She added that their good deed will be done on a continuous basis. “We plan to visit the site on a regular basis to water the plants and ensure that the site is kept tidy.”

Van der Merwe went on to express that Mandela Day is all about realising one has the power to make an impact in the community and actively working towards making that change.
