Police have cautioned students and residents to be aware of criminals targeting them.
Brixton Police Station issued a statement which said, “House robberies in the Brixton Policing prescient is picking up.”
The station has warned students and residents to be alert at all times.
Jeanette Backhoff, the station’s spokesperson said, “Members in the community, especially students who are staying in communes, are requested to be vigilant at all times and to make sure that entry to the property is secure and that the doors and windows are closed properly.”
Backhoff said most of the houses and individuals that are robbed, are students and student accommodation. They are seen as soft targets by criminals and are usually robbed of their laptops, cell phones and cash.
Brixton police are investigating the matter and have already identified potential suspects who carry out these crimes allegedly using knives and screwdrivers. They also urge victims of such crimes to go to the police station and open a case. They are appealing to the community to contact them if they have any information relating to these robberies.
