Greenside High School‘s, Joshua Trace (Grade 12) will be representing Gauteng at the Minquiz National Science Competition following his win on 17 May.
The school sent three of their learners to participate in a science quiz in Randburg at Mintek after writing an individual test and were part of the five schools that were selected to go to the quiz round.

Head of physical science Jean Erasmus shared her excitement, “We won the individual round and the quiz round. Joshua will be participating in the national Minquiz.
“I am very excited because it’s been a while since we have done it. I had wondered if we would ever do it.”
Joshua feels it is a privilege but also thinks that it is not over as he still has to put more effort into ensuring that he puts his school on the map.
“I think my team did well in the previous one and I am so excited for the next round. It’s obviously going to be tougher because there are more people from other areas,” he said.
The school’s principal Nicola Whyte said the school used to do the Minquiz regularly but lately, they haven’t been taking part as much as they would have liked to. “I was very pleased to see the young ones taking part in it again. It is one of the major opportunities in science.
“This proves we have a very strong set of learners who are interested in extending their knowledge beyond the curriculum.”
The next Minquiz competition will see Joshua competing for Gauteng on 19 July in Johannesburg against others school around South Africa.
