Substance abuse awareness with the Bee Clean and Sober campaign

NORTHCLIFF – Changes Treatment Centre started a campaign to give hope and help to recovering addicts.

Elmien Britz started a campaign to raise awareness for patients recovering from substance abuse at Changes Treatment Centre.

Elmien Britz is a social worker who consults at the centre and works with patients who are recovering from substance abuse.

Changes Treatment Centre is an alcohol and drug rehabilitation centre.

‘Recovery will set you free’ written on one of the walls at the treatment centre.

Britz’s campaign started on 24 May. The Bee Clean and Sober campaign ties in bees and the recovery process and principles.

“I started talking about what bees represent. They are always together and united and that is how I want us to be here at this centre. That is why I came up with this campaign,” said Britz.

The campaign started on the centre’s Facebook page where she requested that people come up with what she calls ‘buzz words’ which are words of hope for people who are in recovery.

“I came across words like hope, perseverance, persistence and lots more when I started the campaign and I share these with my patients. This whole week is all about giving hope and raising awareness,” said Britz.

“The buzz words are essentially the spiritual principles of recovery.”

Britz will be running the Comrades Marathon on Sunday and that’s when the campaign will end.

She incorporates the campaign with the marathon by showing patients who are in recovery that perseverance can take you far and consistency can get you to your end goal.

If you would like to be part of the campaign and support people who are recovering you can like their Facebook page: Changes Addiction Recovery Centre and Halfway House or you can contact the centre on 011 478 0601.
