Murder suspect found in possession of unlicensed firearm

JOBURG – The man was arrested on the corner of Wolmarans and Klein streets in Joubert Park.

Johannesburg Flying Squad police officers arrested a suspect for murder and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The man was arrested on the corner of Wolmarans and Klein streets in Joubert Park. The police officers acted on intelligence-driven information that a person was in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“The police officers traced the suspect to Joubert Park and found him in possession of one unlicensed 9mm pistol [Norinco] with two rounds of ammunition. On further investigation, it was discovered that the suspect was wanted on another case for murder,” said Sergent Desmond Subramoney, Johannesburg Flying Squad media officer.

“The firearm was confiscated and investigations continue to determine whether the suspect is linked to other crimes.”

The suspect (36) will face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and murder. The suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
