Time for a kids tennis tourney

NORTHCLIFF – Young tennis players have a blast at the Northcliff Country Tennis Club ahead of the next tournament.

Smashing tennis is played daily at the Northcliff Country Tennis Club.

Fun practices are held, matches are fought out and monthly tournaments always provide players with something to work towards.

Natasha Mumba (4) plays tennis because she “loves to hit the ball”.

The club only offers tennis to players aged between four and 18 years, but that is the age where it is the most fun.

“We group the children in beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate and advanced categories,” said Douglas Mumba, who has coached at the club for nine years.

He explained that playing tennis at a young age helps a child learn to make their own decisions and be accountable for those decisions.

“You obviously get fit too when you play, but tennis makes you mentally strong as well as physically strong. You become strong enough so that when you lose or see yourself losing in a match, you do not cry about it.”

Mumba encouraged anyone interested in playing tennis to contact him.

Robert Mumba (14) keeps a rally going at Northcliff Country Tennis Club.

Furthermore, the club will host a Kids Tennis Tournament on 29 and 30 March.

The tournament will be played from 9am until 11am each day, with different divisions for different skill levels.

Only children between the ages of four-and-a-half and 16 will be permitted to play.

Boys and girls are both encouraged to enter.

Entry is R80 per day, or R150 for both days.
