Vicki Momberg has a sense of entitlement; she has no respect for others and she doesn’t have good interpersonal skills.
This is how the sentencing report – prepared by the Gauteng Department of Social Development – characterised Vicki Momberg, following interviews conducted with her.
The report was done at the request of the defence but they surprisingly ditched the report at the last hour

On 9 March, Momberg’s legal representative, Advocate Kevin Lawley told the court that they will no longer be using the report in mitigation for sentence. State prosecutor, Yusuf Baba, however, told the court that the state will use the report.
Shocking details came out of the report which was read in court by a senior official from the department, Daphney Naidoo, giving light on why the defence chose not to use it.
In this report, Momberg was reported to have shifted responsibility to everyone; she failed to take responsibility for her actions even after being found guilty by the court. She told the probation officer that the magistrate, prosecutor and the media were all biased and highlighted that she is appealing the guilty verdict.
Momberg was caught on camera in 2016 hurling racial insults at a black police officer who was trying to assist her at a scene where she claimed to be a smash-and-grab victim. She also called 10111 where she also made racial remarks to the black operator who answered her call.

Momberg is said to have told the probation officer (from the department) that the victims (police officers) were lying. The court also heard how the initial probation officer assigned to the case had to recuse herself from the case, following alleged abusive behaviour by Momberg.
The report also pointed out that during interviews, Momberg was extremely frustrated by questions and had several outbursts.
At some point during interviews, Momberg was asked her views about apartheid and this was her response “What do you want me to say? We are over that time. Stop blaming everything on apartheid. What did blacks do to uplift themselves? Did they build roads or schools? We all had the same opportunities,” Naidoo read Momberg’s response from the report.
Momberg also told the officer how she didn’t trust the country’s justice system. She also said white people had no space in this country, especially white men. Momberg reportedly told the officer that if she had money, she would leave the country.
On the ‘K’ word, Momberg said she only sees it as merely a swear word.

The probation officer recommended to the court to sentence Momberg to periodical imprisonment (weekends). The sentence must not be less than 100 hours imprisonment but not more than 2 000 hours.
The report further went on to recommend that Momberg issue an unconditional apology to all parties concerned and the apology must be posted on social media platforms and the Human Rights Commission’s website.
Sentencing proceedings have been postponed to 16 March for further evidence in mitigation and aggravation of sentence.
