Northcliff High wins Super 5 gala for the 19th time

NORTHCLIFF – Northcliff High School wins by 195 points in the Super 5 swimming gala.

Last year Northcliff High School (NHS) took home the inter-high athletics trophy for the 21st year in a row and already at the beginning of this year, they won the Super 5 swimming gala for the 19th year in a row.

The school cleaned up at the state school competition at the beginning of February, which was hosted at Rand Park High School.

NHS entered the school empty-handed but with weeks and weeks of training under their belts, they left the school with the Super 5 trophy.

“[W]e are immensely proud to be bringing the trophy back home again for the 19th year in a row,” NHS marketing manager, Jacqui Todaro, said.

In a previous interview with the Northcliff Melville Times, Todaro explained that the school has swimming galas almost every week.

“I think they just enjoy being in the pool more than anything.”

NHS takes full advantage of its new pool, which was built as a result of the school’s debs and squires, gathering nearly R1-million for the 50-year overdue pool upgrade.

NHS not only won the gala, they smashed the runner-up school by 195 points, however, it was not as big a gap as it was between 3rd and 4th place, which was a 292 gap between Fourways and Bryanston High schools.

Super 5 swimming gala scores:

  • 1st place – Northcliff High School (946 points)
  • 2nd place – Rand Park High School (751 points)
  • 3rd place – Fourways High School (727 points)
  • 4th place – Bryanston High School (435 points)
  • 5th place – Hyde Park High School (264 points).
