Councillor’s Corner: Keep saving water

JOBURG – Read this weeks' question in Councillor's Corner.

This week’s question was:

With the water crisis in Cape Town looming, how real is the threat here in Joburg? What should we, as residents, do about it in our areas?

ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele answers this week’s question.

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele answered:

Water is a scarce resource in South Africa and Joburg is no exception. Residents throughout the city are encouraged to reduce their water usage to avert any further water restrictions in Joburg.
Although the National Department of Water and Sanitation lifted the water restrictions in March last year, in the City of Johannesburg the Level 1 water restrictions are still in place.

Follow these water saving tips:

  • Do not leave taps dripping
  • Wash your car on the grass. This will water your lawn at the same time
  • Use a watering can instead of a hosepipe
  • Shorten your showering time.

Do you have a question for a ward councillor?

As a local newspaper, the Randburg Sun provides a platform for residents to learn about, understand and follow local government. As an extension of that, there is a weekly column called Councillor’s Corner which is a platform for you, our readers, to voice your concerns or questions for ward councillors to respond to.

Different, willing ward councillors will respond to a question each week.

E-mail your burning question to aimeed@caxton.co.za and let’s get the ball rolling.
