With the festive season filled with alcohol consumption and community members less inclined to drive from mall to mall and party to party, paid taxi services have become a popular option during the holidays.
Uber released a list of safety tips for users of the taxi service and driver-partners.
How to stay safe as an Uber driver-partner this festive season:
- Stay focused while driving
- Avoid parking in dark and unsafe areas
- Drop your passengers off the correct way by pulling over in an allocated parking bay and use your hazards
- Watch out for pedestrians, cyclists and bikers when dropping off passengers.
How to stay safe as an Uber user this festive season:
- Always buckle up even if you are in the backseat
- Share your trip details or estimated time of arrival with loved ones
- Use the in-app help function in case of an emergency
- Give Uber feedback on your trip.
“Safety is a two-way street, especially when two people are sharing a ride and while no means of transportation is 100 per cent free of accidents and incidents, we’re always looking for ways to improve safety,” said Uber sub-Saharan Africa general manager, Alon Lits.
