Beanies for Beings lunch at Moths Cottesloe

FAIRLAND – Organisation needs assistance to give cookies to the senior citizens.

Beanies for Beings will be hosting a Christmas lunch for the residents of Moth Cottesloe Retirement Village in Fairland on 16 December.

The charity organisation is planning to hand out toiletry hampers to the senior citizens at the retirement village on the day.

Megan Botha who heads Beanies for Beings is also seeking help in collecting toiletries as well as cookies. She wants to package the cookies for the senior citizens to enjoy during the festive season.

The Memorable Order of Tin Hats or the Moths is a former serviceman’s organisation founded in Durban in 1927 by Charles Alfred Evenden. He was born in London and as a young man emigrated to Australia and served with the Australian forces during World War I.

Evenden later moved to South Africa, and in 1927 after watching a war film, he wondered what had happened to his comrades in the army. After much discussion with colleagues and friends, the Moths were then founded.

“We would appreciate it if the community could help us with our collection so that we can give to the senior citizens,” said Botha.
