Young DJ making strides

AUCKLAND PARK – A local 19-year-olf DJ is going from strength to strength.

A young local DJ is going from strength to strength and is already breaking into the larger South African music scene bit by bit.

After Phodiso ‘Phodii’ Raboroko (19) partnered with Caxton Local Media’s Sandton Chronicle for the U18 event of the Litty Street DJ party where high school DJ’s lit up Sandton at the Sandton Sands, DJ Phodii has moved on to bigger events and will soon release an EP.

Phodii started making his own music since he was about 11 years old and has been honing his music skills ever since. He is currently still working towards finishing his audio technology studies at the Academy of Sound Engineering in Auckland Park.

He has a taste for deep underground house music and African tribal drums. Surprisingly, for a DJ who was born into the electronic dance music generation, he tries to avoid the genre as much as he can and prefers more local sounds.

After getting over the anxiety of playing his first big gig, Litty Street, and gaining more experience performing for large crowds, Phodii sees himself taking on even bigger shows. His music has also since moved to the radio and has had his live mixes featured on UJ FM.

The young DJ has already performed alongside big names in the SA music scene such as Euphonik, Voltrex, The Kiffness and more. Some of his bigger events include the Johannesburg Neon Run, Kramerville and On the Night Music Festival.

While he is doing more than just fine for a DJ his age, he sees himself performing at shows such as the Ultra Festival, Tomorrowland, Boiler Room events and Soul Candi, in the future.

Phodii said, for now, he was doing what he needed to be doing to make it in the SA music scene and would soon be taking over the industry both locally and internationally.
