Making a difference one bra at a time

JOBURG – Kindness Like Confetti have taken hands with ZABRA to get bras and underwear to women who can't afford it.

Kindness Like Confetti (KLC) launched Project Uplift which has uplifted many girls and women.

The project is an initiative which sees bras donated to women and girls who otherwise can’t afford them.

KLC founder, Alyson Samson, has been getting her immediate community and beyond involved in the project and has gone as far as collecting bras from Bryanston.

Samson said they managed to get a lingerie shop in Bryanston to donate their returns and old stock.

In addition to having slightly defective bras with a stitch out of place here and there, Samson said some community members have donated some of their best and have even bought brand new branded bras for those who have none.

More than 500 bras are collected for Project Uplift.

While Samson does her own community and charity work, this project will feed into the ZABra – AfreeBra Initiative.

This initiative is run on Facebook and was launched in 2015 to collect new and second-hand bras and underwear for women who can’t afford their own. The initiative is not restricted to South Africa – volunteers have been making a difference in other countries such as the United Kingdom.

As October was breast cancer awareness month, Samson joined in on the initiative as a way to assist those in need and also create awareness around breast cancer.

While donations officially ended on 27 October, Samson said the response was so overwhelming that KLC would continue collecting bras but this time not in partnership with ZABra.

She said KLC would collect and donate bras locally.

She urged women and men to share what the initiative was about with friends, family and colleagues so that more people could make a difference.

To donate your gently used bras or new bras, contact KLC on 072 675 1536 for a drop-off location near you.
