Sophiatown police flats residents still face challenges
SOPHIATOWN – The Sophiatown police flats' water has been restored but residents still face major challenges on the property.
While their water issues were recently resolved, residents of the Sophiatown police flats are still living in squalor.
Northcliff Melville Times visited the property on 11 October and it was clear that maintenance had not been done in quite some time.

Resident Tricia Swanepoel explained and pointed out a number of problems residents face which includes broken fire hoses, litter, rarely taken away refuse, broken windows and graffiti.
While water has been restored, resident Tricia Swanepoel said that the property still has many problems. Next on the list is for the flats’ elevators to be repaired, which haven’t worked in close to two years.
The matter has since been escalated to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature as well, and comment is awaited from the Sophiatown Police Station.
