#JoburgStorm: Donate non-perishables to Zandspruit

ZANDSPRUIT – Honeydew CPF rallies the community in efforts to help the people of Zandspruit who were affected by the hail storm.

The Honeydew Community Policing Forum has started a relief project for the residents of Zandspruit.

This comes after various communities in the city were left devastated after a hail storm hit Johannesburg on 9 October. Residents are requested to donate non-perishable goods and clothes for the residents of Zandspruit.

Public relations officer for the forum, Jon Rosenburg said the effects of the storm were devastating to see.

“Some of the damages came from fallen trees,” said Rosenburg.

Ward 89 councillor, Amelia Bester said the extent of the damage is still under assessment following the devastation.

“We are most thankful for the greater community taking the initiative to assist with aid,” said Bester, adding that just gestures restore one’s trust in humanity when you see people pulling together in tough times like these.

Bester explained that the effects of climate change are evident and we can expect more flooding and severe storms in this rainy season.

“Disaster Management Region C would like to set up a storeroom to enable us to respond faster with aid,” said Bester.

Should you want to assist you can use one of the following drop-off points for your donations:

  • Honeydew Police Station
  • Panorama Primary School
  • BCI Security, 773 Augrabies Avenue, Little Falls, Roodepoort
  • Caxton Local Newspapers Weltevreden Park, 1187 Cornelius Street, Weltevreden Park
  • Caxton Local Newspapers 368 Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall Park.
